lyrics

In a valley Shaded
I stopped to take my rest
for the journey it was long
and hard I had pressed
when lain out on the grass
neath the gnarled oak tree
my past and my future
got the better of me
visions they came of my triumph and loss
and plied high the scale with dead albatross
the future came dressed as a dealer of cards
I drew the empress
and the seven of stars
webspun sight of my hands to her breast
and the words from my mouth forsaking the rest
forgetting my past I can start to believe
when lain out on the grass
neath the gnarled oak tree
visions they came of the futures I've lost
I'd not say regret but something they cost
the future she offered her wand and her hearts
I did not take them
but the way to depart
when lain out on the grass
neath the gnarled oak tree
my past and my future
got the better of me
